Western Digital Internal Hard Drives For Desktops And Laptops

By Matthew Kerridge

Pertinent information always needs a place to be stored, which is what Western Digital internal hard drives offer. This additional storage is great for both office and home where desktop computers require more storage space. Notebook computers also have this same issue. Outstanding performance and the reliability of these drives makes them excellent for write-intensive applications and servers.

Desktop Units- Three individual drives are available by WD, these internal drives are named; WD Caviar Green, WD Caviar Black, and WD Caviar Blue. These progressive drives are very reliable, they are able to run without overheating, and the noise level is almost inaudible. The Caviar Blue has a capacity of 750GB and a cache size of 16MD. The Caviar Green has a capacity of 2TB and a cache of 32MB. Lastly, the Caviar Black is capable of 2TB and a cache of 64MB.

Hard drive protection is available on both the Black and Blue models; Data Lifeguard and ShockGuard. The Data Lifeguard offers error detection and repair, protection from shock, and an environmental protection system.

Mobile- WD offers two types of internal hard drives for portable units, such as laptops. These two mobile hard drives are the WD Scorpio Blue and the WD Scorpio Black. Both of these consume very little power, plus they are ultra quiet and cool running. The Scorpio Blue is 2. 5 inches in size, with SATA 3Gb/s interface and a 1TB capacity. Scorpio Black allows notebooks to perform like a desktop, with its free-fall sensor, 320GB capacity, 7200 RPM, and SATA 3 Gb/s.

Mobile Units- Desktops aren't the only systems that need more storage, laptops also occasionally require excess room. Two types of internal drives offered by Western Digital are the WD Scorpio Blue and Scorpio Black. The power use of these two drives is extremely minimal, they run cool, and are ultra quiet. The Scorpio Blue is 1TB capacity with SATA 3Gb/s, and 2. 5 inches in size, while the Scorpio Black has 7200 RPM, SATA 3Gb/s, 320GB capacity, and a fall sensor.

This fall sensor found in the Scorpio Black ensures parking of the head in the event of a fall. Disk damage is prevented by this head parking mechanism. Both the Scorpio Black and the Scorpio Blue have SecurePark as well. This feature saves the disk from extra wear by parking the head off to the side of the disk when the drive isn't being used. The parking will also occur during the start up of the disk and the stopping.

There are other hard drives offered by WD; SAS hard drives, 2. 5 and 3. 5 sized SATA hard drives, as well as two AV internal drives. For those in need of drives for video surveillance and PVR/DVR equipment, which can be quite demanding, Western Digital internal hard drives also offers the perfect devices for these too. - 22787
