Is Your Computer Secure Enough?

By Richard Lechner

On your windows based PC you may already know what it is like to have a serious malware or virus infection, you may already know the problems this malware can cause. You may have noticed strange browser behaviour, poor security issues, slow response times and other weird stuff.

It can be especially frustrating to have antivirus software installed on your computer and it somehow misses a virus and other malware on your computer.

I hope this article will be able to highlight all of the important steps involved in securing your windows computer from all the threats out there from viruses, phishing and trojans through to adware, spyware and other security problems. The aim of the information in this article is to point you in the right direction to securing your computer from such threats. Finally, the aim is to make sure you have a very effective and secure firewall in place to stop any unwanted intrusions.

Overall, I hope this article will get you to take action to stop your computer from being attacked from various security vulnerabilities.

To build an effective security system and firewall for your computer it need not cost you an absolute arm and a leg and thankfully it can be fairly quick and easy to do also. Also, don't worry about not having the computer skills to achieve a secure computer as the steps are very easy even for a relative novice.

These are the effective steps that you need to take to ensure your computer is secure..

1. The first and some say most important step is to install a top notch antivirus package on your computer. It is a good idea to read some comparison reviews of the more robust packages to see which one is the best. Some good brands are made by Norton, ESet, Kaspersky and McAfee.

2. It is also very important that you have installed an anti malware software package like spy doctor or Malwarebytes anti malware. This will work hand in hand with your main anti virus package and will help mop up all the nasty malware that your main anti virus software might miss.

3. It is essential to having a top notch Internet security system on your PC to have a really effective firewall. The windows firewall is okay and does a reasonable job of blocking unwanted traffic but I would recommend a more robust and powerful software firewall for extra security. Zonalarm is a good brand but there are plenty of good reviews and comparisons available online for your perusal.

4. It is important to use a good secure browser like Firefox for example. Firefox utilizes some great little addons that can improve security by providing ad blockers and other security problems.

5. I also recommend that you take a look at the settings that your browser is set to. Pay special attention to things like activeX controls that are allowed plus your computers hosts file doesn't include any unwanted stuff. There is plenty of info online about what a hosts file should include.

So in summary, a good security system for your windows computer should begin with a good anti virus package and anti malware and spyware package. Also a good firewall will stop any unwanted intrusions. - 22787
