In The World Of PCs, Netbooks Are Out Performing Notebooks

By Kazu Oda

A decade ago, defining computers was as easy and differentiating between a desktop model and laptop. Desktops, of course, were stationary computers that stayed in one place. Laptops were defined as portable Pcs, with the screen and keyboard being attached.

Today, the lines have become much more skewed and there are now many more categories within the portable computer market. How exactly are the categories defined and how do you understand what makes the difference?

Of course, any computer that is portable and one piece can be generally place in the laptop category. However, as new technology advances, subcategories are becoming more common. The differentiation is commonly based upon the size and capability of the specific Pcs. The term laptop has come to mean a full sized, full featured portable computer.

Netbook Pcs focus more on Internet accessibility and less of performance. However, basic computing tasks are still easily handled. Netbooks are the perfect choice for students and children. However, they can perfectly suitable for other users as well. Because of the bare bones guts, they are also lighter and smaller than a full featured laptop. And, probably the most exciting selling point, they are much cheaper. A good netbook can easily be purchased for several hundred dollars, making them excellent starter machines.

Business professionals especially may decide to look at full sized notebook computers. Notebook models are larger and offer many more features. Performance is key to this market niche, so Pcs are available that can easily handle graphics, data processing and gaming. While it's still generally easier to get maximum memory storage in a desktop, today's laptops offer almost as much storage capacity.

Students especially need to have flexibility without having to pay out the nose for a professional model. Netbooks can be particularly appealing to younger parents whose children are starting to be in competition for the use of the family computer. In addition, because of the basic memory, netbooks are much lighter, which is very appealing to young people on the go.

There are pros and cons to each style of laptop computer. For the lowest price and basic capacity, a netbook may meet your needs the best.

For most people, especially students, netbook Pcs can provide a great affordable alternative. - 22787
