Computer Rebooting In 15 Minutes - Save Money Now

By JD Chang

Does your computer need rebooting? The science of PC computer rebooting is not easy - you don't just shut down your laptop or press the power button to turn off your desktop.

To reboot your computer the correct way - and to avoid serious OS errors and registry problems that could cause longer-term problems, read this article. I'll provide 5 steps to properly rebooting any PC or Mac computer without damages to the OS.

Sometimes even a computer running slowly needs a good reboot to speed it up!

Step 1. Shut down and save programs

If your computer isn't completely frozen, make sure to close all programs. When computers restart, they delete short-term memory. This means that any Microsoft Excel worksheet that you were working on will be deleted unless you SAVE IT NOW.

Step 2. Make sure there are no scripts or processes still going

If there are running processes like a hard drive defragment or iTunes is burning a CD for you in the CD drive, these scripts could be ended and cause serious damage to both the software program itself as well as any files associated with them.

Step 3. Do a "soft computer reboot" through the Start Menu

I'm talking only to Windows OS users now, but the same general logic applies to Apple Macbook users too. Find the Shutdown options, and click "Restart".

Step 4. If that doesn't work at all, do a "hard computer reboot"

This is when all else fails and your PC laptop freezes or a soft reboot "Restart" isn't working. Find the power switch, and hold it down. Do not let go! That's important - hold it down until your monitor turns off (usually in 5-7 secs).

Your computer has been made to power down manually - what's known as a hard computer reboot. This will cause data loss and in the wrong circumstances, corrupt software and OS files.

Step 5. Once your computer has restarted/rebooted

Do a check of key software that load at start. These will be the first to get fucked up during rebooting steps. Remember, proper rebooting eliminates the requirement to purchase expensive computer repair parts! - 22787
