Samsung CLX 2160 N - The Cost Friendly And Confident Printer

By Ben Pate

The Samsung CLX 2160N printer is one of the newest electronics playthings out there today. It isn't just a color laser printer. It's an itsy bitsy, teeny weeny Liliputian version of a color printer. Compared to the rest of Samsung's line of printers, this one is like Tiny Tom. Not only is it Samsung's smallest but is officially known as the world's smallest color laser printer. It has plenty of MFP qualities although not all. Check out Samsung CLX 2160 N toner.

As we all know, MFP doesn't stand for Most Famous Printer. It stands for Multi Function Printer. Included in the 'Multi-Function' description can be scanner, copier and fax functions. Samsung managed to fit the first two into this small box. They just couldn't squeeze the fax part into it. More on that later. Stay tuned. If you're just looking for a run of the mill, average, every day color printer, you'll find this unit a little on the pricey side. But if you look at what you get, or perhaps what you don't get (a big, bulky brick sitting on your desk), the price is pretty good.

The Samsung CLX-2160N toner is a powdery substance you buy in neat little containers that come in black, red, yellow and blue. Melting toner is how you get text and pictures on a piece of paper. The Samsung CLX 2160N converts the toner into ink (by melting) which is what we call print. This toner is about the size of a small tube.

A laser printer is a printer that uses Samsung toner, in the case of a Samsung CLX 2160N color laser printer there are four toners, which consist of three different colors and black. The speed is up to 4 ppm in A4. The first print out time in the Mono is fourteen seconds, while the print out time in the color is twenty six seconds. The duplex is manual. The printer holds up to 150 sheets of paper.

The function of a scanner in Samsung CLX 2160N is you put a paper in the scanner and it turns it into an image which you can see on your computer. This scanner has a 1,200x500 dpi Resolution. It scans to USB/Folder/Application/Network.

The copy has two different speeds. Slow and fast. Sorry, just joking. One speed is for Color and the other for mono (black and white). Again, the speeds are very similar to the printing function. In color mode you get 4ppm for an A4 sized document. In B&W you get 16ppm for an A4 document. These are pretty impressive numbers for a machine of this size. Measuring from a standing start figuratively speaking, you wait 18 and 45 seconds respectively for the first copy to print out.

Unlike most other Samsungs the CLX-2160N does not have a faxing function. This is due to the fact that in order for this Samsung laser printer to be one of the world's smallest printers, it needs to save a lot of space.

It's your lucky day. Although this unit is more expensive than your average printer, for what it does and considering its small footprint (remember, it always costs more to make something smaller than bigger), You get everything above for a very reasonable retail price of USD$420. And look on the bright side. Samsung sells unit that do pretty much the same thing for a lot more $$$. - 22787
