A Great Personal Printer - The Brother HL 1230 Printer

The Brother HL 1230 Printer uses Brother HL 1230 Toner and was designed for personal use. This printer it can be used with all personal computers that runs Windows 95 or higher. As with the Brother products this printer is a black and white laser printer and produces excellent quality printouts. The resolution is 600 x 600 dpi. It can print on both legal and A4 paper sizes and can produce up to 12 pages per minute.

Besides plain paper the HL-1230 can also print on card stock, bond, labels and transparencies. The paper tray can hold 250 sheets of paper. The size of the printer is about 14.5 inches wide and the printer contains 2MB of RAM. This printer prints is monochromatic and will be able to handle all of your personal printing needs.

HL-1230 is easy to install, software is provided that gives step-by-step instructions and other guides on how to use the printer. You can also directly hook up to the Brothers website for additional features and technical help. The printer goes into power save mode after 90 seconds and very quickly recovers when you wish to print. It has a parallel port to hook up to the network, which is not as good as a USB connection.

The toner can last as long as 10 months depending on your printing frequency. This product is not quite as technology advanced as most of the Brothers products but it performs very well for it function. The model is very affordable and the user manual is very comprehensive as it also includes instructions on how to use the manual feed slot.

The Brother HL 1230 Printer can use any of the following connection cables, the Belkin 6'IEEE 1284 Bi-directional Parallel cable, Belkin 10' Parallel cable, Belkin 15' IEEE 1284 bi-directional parallel cable, Belkin 17ft Ethernet patch cable, and Belkin serial printer cable. The Brother HL 1230 toner cartridge will last for 3,000 pages or more. It is possible to print on inkjet paper, multipurpose paper, photo matte paper, glossy photo paper and more.

As long as your operating system is Windows 95 or later then you should not have any problems hooking the printer up. If you need to update your drivers the Brothers website has all drivers for each operating system. The website also provides a lot of trouble-shooting and answers to common problems.

The vast majority of customers have no problems with the HL 1230 model from Brother but a few hiccups have come to light. Many times individuals have trouble resetting the printer and have difficulty determining the problem when the alarm light goes on. Sometime the toner does not last as long as it should and individuals do not realize that if they upgrade their computer and operating system then they will need to download new drivers.
