Important Facts That Make iMac A Wiser Choice

By Valik Rudd

Apple's all-in-one desktop computer, the iMac, has grown through several distinct stages into what you see today. It's high tech features and sleek design with the side-to-side glass screen and the aluminum case has made it a very popular computer for home and business use. iMac has also received a lot of attention with the development of the new NVIDIA chipset graphics feature and the ultra-thin keyboard.

But while both Sony and HP have their versions of the all-in-one desktop with a glossy screen and trim profile, iMac has the following advantages over them that will make computer users choose iMac over those brands:

iMac's overall performance and features alone put it ahead of the similarly priced competitor products, but they take it another step with the stunning aesthetic features. The new iMac did away with the snow-white case and is wrapped in a sleek looking solid chunk of anodized aluminum that makes it look even thinner.

A solid piece of glass covering the entire display from edge to edge makes it show a lot brighter and crisper image. Just like on the Mac laptops, MacBook and MacBook Pro, the glossy screen gives a nice reflective quality.

The iMac now comes with wider displays as an answer to the trend for widening displays among computer makers. In doing so, iMac practically abandoned its old 17-inch display which they first replaced with 20 and 24 inches sizes and lately, they came out with the new standard display of 16:9 wide screens in 21.5" and 27" models. The iMac's 27" model has a digital video input port that allows the display for other systems or devices.

As a standard on the iMac, iSight camera sits hidden under the glossy glass display, perfectly blended with the screen's black border. The iSite camera provides quality video and stills in the 640px x 480px size. An integrated multi-directional microphone picks up sound through eight tiny, human-hair-sized, laser cut holes arranged in a flower pattern at the top of the aluminum case.

The NVIDIA video card is still standard in the base models in the iMac and an ATI video card is available as an option. Making it the first quad-core iMac, the 27-inch model features the quad-core Intel Core i5 processor and has an option of the Intel Core i7 processor which TurboBoosts the dynamic performance up to 3.46GHz. The new iMac comes standard with 4GB of SDRAM and supports up to, crazy, 16GB.

The most radically redesigned element of the new iMac is the keyboard, the same keyboard with identical spacing as those found in the MacBook. The difference is that this ultra-thin keyboard is mounted on a thin piece of aluminum that matched perfectly the sleek body. The front edge of the keyboard is only about a third of an inch in height so the wrists and hands have more natural arched position, making the keyboard more ergonomic. In addition to the ergonomic design, the keyboard also acts as a USB 2.0 hub where you can plug in several USB devices like iPod, iPhone, and digital cameras.

As we've seen, the features and the design of the new iMac make it hands-down the winner and the best all-in-one desktop to switch to. - 22787
