Inexpensive Laptop

By Craig Stephenson

These days it's easy to obtain a cheap laptop that's not only affordable, but also includes the latest technology. Most consumers can find a laptop that fits their individual need for under $1000, brand new. It is possible to spend as little as $260. However, even a more customized computer for listening to music, basic videogame play, or watching TV can be as low as $500.

One of the cheapest laptops is a Dell. The mini is light and portable with only a ten inch screen. It is fully loaded with a 120- 160 GB hard drive, 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM memory, Intel Atom processor, long lasting Lithium-Ion battery, wireless capabilities, wide screen, mobile connectivity, video card,; and comes preloaded with either Windows XP or Ubuntu. Though it's tiny next to a full size laptop its keyboard is only 8% smaller, so it's efficient.

There are many brick and mortar locations where you can find a good deal on a laptop. Most people automatically think of CompUSA, or BestBuy when considering a new computer, and though they carry some cheap laptops, they aren't the only place to look. Wal-Mart, K-mart, or Target have unbeatable prices. Their selection of models is limited, but you can find brand names like Toshiba or Dell and Acer. Bulk stores also have good package deals. However, you have to have a membership to places like Sam's Club or Costco, and though you get more for your money, the packages can be more expensive than a laptop alone.

If you prefer to shop online, TigerDirect.com, Dell.com, and Macintosh.com offer great deals. TigerDirect.com is a great place to find a cheap laptop, as they have a large selection, the best prices, and outstanding support. Dell.com also has a large selection. Their prices start at around $360. Macintosh.com has lower end laptops as well, however, their selection is markedly smaller than most others.

If you don't mind them, refurbished laptops are a great way to go. Though they were previously owned, or defective in some way, a company specializing in rebuilding laptops can not only make them as good as new, but can give you a lower price. You can get more bang for your buck with one of these laptops, because you can pay less for more options. If you don't have a lot of money, and need something specific, it's definitely the way to go.

There are plenty of companies that refurbish laptops, but not all are created equal. Do some research before you make a purchase. Dell, Mac, and Toshiba, as well as TigerDirect.com all have refurbished goods available, they're good places to find the right refurbished laptop.

There are a lot of benefits to owning a cheap laptop. They can be everything needed for everyday use, but without the worry of high replacement cost. This can be especially important if the laptop is going to be used for school or travel. Most cheap laptops still come with a one year warranty, which can be upgraded if a longer one is needed. And, since most of the top companies provide inexpensive models, a cheap laptop doesn't have to be low quality. - 22787
