Dell 5210n - Impressive Capacity At An Frugal Price

By Ben Pate

The Dell 5210n laser printer and its associated Dell 5210n toner cartridge are made to work together to provide printing services to networked workgroups. It combines high-speed print output with good-quality printing quality at a list price well under a thousand dollars.

Output capacity. The included 250 sheet paper tray is adequate for most medium-duty printing requirements. It can hold a massive 2600 pages with the inclusion of optional 500 sheet trays. The 5210n is also rated for monthly duty cycles of 200,000 pages, which should be as much as any medium-size workgroup would need under most any circumstance.

Connecting the Dell 5210n. The printer comes standard with USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet ports, which is pretty unremarkable. However, it also has the ability when using its optional wireless 802.11 network adaptor to almost eliminate every cord or cable from the equation. IT folks love a clean workspace, and the 5210 can give it to them.

Quality of Output. Document quality from the printer is good. With 1200dpi, there's not much to find fault with. Characters look good in black and white, and there's no bleary-looking printing on the produced document.

How much Memory? The 5210n comes standard with 64MB, which is acceptable though a bit on the low side, these days. But you can quickly and cheaply expand it all the way up to 576MB, making it a player in the high-speed, high-output laser printer field. With memory as cheap as it is, there are no worries about cost, either.

Ease of use. This Dell workgroup laser printer offers high quality and high volume to mid-sized entities. It offers fast 40 pages-per-minute high-volume printing to medium workgroups. Its fast printing speeds can help any business improve its productivity. Other, more complicated print jobs, such as duplex, may reduce page output down to about 30 or so ppm. Because of the variety of interface ports on the printer, it can be pretty ease to hook up, too.

Warranty and Cartridges. The 5210n comes with Dell's standard year-long 24/7 service program, which can be extended by an additional 4 years for a nominal fee. It also comes with an included 10,000 page laser toner cartridge. - 22787
